CALENDAR OF EVENTS

What's Happening Here at the LGBT Center SE Wisconsin

Ending This Month... in the Center's Art Gallery:

"The World According to Larry Zamba"

An area icon known, among other reasons, as the force behind the "Mr. Kenosha Pageant," Larry Zamba is a member and supporter of the LGBT Center. He recognized his artistic talent by age 5, and later obtained  degrees in Broadcast Communications and Art from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. After spending many years in the event management field, Larry started doing  professional photography in the mid 1980s.  His talents in painting and illustration  now have  taken off, and he is being recognized not only for his unflinching realism, but his pop-surrealism paintings as well. Larry’s interests include championing progressive social issues, politics, (he was a Wisconsin State Assembly candidate in 2008) and the environment.

'Queer the Census'

Meets at the LGBT Center

Probably more than any other time in
our history, LGBT people must take an active role in our national census.  Other communities are gearing up to maximize their allowable count.  Can our own LGBT population do the same?  And, if so, how can we do it ... and what about privacy concerns?  Find out what makes this year's Census -- to be distributed in March -- so different ... and how you can get involved ... when LGBT Center member Bob Waldron, a Census Bureau Complete Count Committee member,  discusses the Census from a different perspective and facilitates a special LGBT census-planning session.  This program is free--please attend and bring along a friend (or two).  Please place this event on your personal "to-do" calendar, because we only get this chance once every ten (10) years!!!

'Nudge-A-Nurse'

At the LGBT Center

Thanks to Judy Exner, a not-quite-retired nurse who's benefited from personal experience with gay people, we're delighted to offer this very extraordinary new program: Stop by the LGBT Center to have your blood pressure taken, your pulse and heart beat monitored, to ask questions about stress  ... or seek guidance, referrals and/or advice about any medical-related (physical or mental) health concerns you have.  This service is professional, it's personal, and -- best of all -- it's absolutely free!  (To schedule an exact time and ensure that you're seen, it's a good idea to confirm your appointment.)

Movie Night at the LGBT Center:

Trick

Gabe and Mark aren't asking for much--just a simple one-night stand.  All they need is a place to seal the deal.  Sound easy?  Not when your neurotic best friend (Tori Spelling) is trying to revive a dying musical career off-off-off-Broadway ... your cabaret singing co-worker has just broken up with his boyfriend of seven years ... and all of Manhattan seems set for a nervous breakdown.  It's one chaotic event after another as these two hopeful romantics try to stop the city so they can get off!
